Patient Simulations have been an effective and memorable way to reach medical, healthcare, patient and caregiver audiences, and pharmaceutical sales forces in an increasingly challenging environment.
In a live (or recorded) Patient Simulation program, an audience watches a dynamic interaction between an actual notable physician and a simulated patient (a highly skilled, carefully trained professional actor); diagnostic, therapeutic, counseling and management challenges are explored. A live audience is invited to "participate" in the patient's diagnosis and care through a stop-and-go lively interactive discussion with the presenting physician throughout the program.
In the case of sales training opportunities, it's a superior way to paint that patient picture for the reps who must do the same for their customers. It is a vehicle to gaining deep insight into the how and the why of a particular type of physician's approach to a particular patient. It's an especially effective training tool for representatives new to a particular disease state, or about to engage physicians in a specialty new to them (eg. retinal specialists); as such, it has been used in that way at numerous launch meetings.
We were the first to take this medical institution teaching tool out of the teaching hospitals and apply it to the educational objectives of major pharmaceutical companies. It's uniquely useful in imparting current messages about disease state, exploring subtleties of diagnosis and the challenges of patient education and compliance, reviewing treatment guidelines and appropriate treatment options based on a patient's profile, etc.
